Back in Town

‘It’s been a while,’ she said, as she took my hand with a smile.

I say nothing in reply, staying silent, continuing to walk with her by my side. I do not know what brought me back here, or why I even left in the first place. Life can be overwhelming and underwhelming in equal measure, causing us to turn in many different directions. Sometimes it’s important to reverse, and sometimes it’s important to move on. It’s difficult to know when to make the right choice.

‘It has,’ I finally answer her as my thoughts drift away into the background once more ‘but at least I’m back in town now’.

We continue to talk, and walk. I can’t promise her that this will be the final time that I return, that I’ll never leave again, but for the moment I know that this is where I belong.
